What it needs, and where it runs
Student is honest about its edges. Here is what you need to run it, what it does not do yet, and which platforms are live today.
What you need
- ✓A Windows PC — the recording and all study tools run locally on it.
- ✓A microphone to capture the room (any built-in or USB mic works).
- ✓An email-only account (no password) to run your trial and manage the subscription.
- ✓No API key needed, and no internet to record or transcribe — the intelligence is built in.
Known limits
- Windows only right now — there is no native Mac app for recording yet.
- Recording happens on the PC; mobile is review-and-flashcards only, and still on the roadmap.
- Optional Prime cloud-AI features send only the text you choose off-device, and are off by default.
