The short version
AdjiCera is a tool, and using it responsibly is a condition of the licence — not a suggestion. Get the consent the law requires before you record anyone, and never use AdjiCera to break the law, harass, distribute malware or spam, infringe rights, impersonate, attack our systems, or resell access. Because calls and chat are protected so we cannot read them, the primary safeguard is you; where we receive a credible report we can act at the account and username level, up to suspending or terminating access. This policy is part of, and governed by, our Terms of Service.
About this policy
This Acceptable Use Policy sets out what you may and may not do with AdjiCera — the Student and Professional desktop applications, AdjiCera Call, and this website. It supplements, and is part of, our Terms of Service; where a term is defined there, it has the same meaning here. If there is any conflict, the Terms of Service govern. By using AdjiCera you agree to follow this policy.
Consent to record
You must obtain consent to record wherever the law requires it. AdjiCera is a tool; it does not make any particular recording lawful. Recording laws differ by jurisdiction — some places require the consent of only one party to a conversation, and others require the consent of every party — and institutions or employers may add their own rules. It is your responsibility to know and follow the rules that apply to you, to inform participants before a recording starts, to obtain any consent required, and to stop recording anyone who withdraws it. This applies equally to enrolling someone’s voice profile. Your obligations around recording and consent are set out in Sections 4 and 5 of the Terms of Service.
Prohibited uses
You agree not to use AdjiCera, and not to permit anyone else to use it, to:
- Break the law. Engage in, promote, or facilitate any illegal activity, or use AdjiCera for any unlawful purpose.
- Record without consent. Record or transcribe any person without the consent the law requires, record conversations you are not a party to, or record covertly where covert recording is unlawful.
- Harass or abuse. Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or abuse another person, or send, request, or distribute sexual content involving minors or non-consensual intimate imagery.
- Distribute malware or spam. Transmit malware, viruses, or harmful code, or send unsolicited bulk invitations, spam, chain messages, phishing links, or fraudulent solicitations through call invitations or in-call chat.
- Infringe rights. Infringe anyone’s intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or contractual rights, or share a lecture, meeting, or call without the permission of the people in it.
- Impersonate or mislead. Impersonate any person or organisation, misrepresent your affiliation, or register a username to deceive or to impersonate someone.
- Attack or reverse-engineer. Probe, scan, overload, or attack our infrastructure; attempt to intercept, decrypt, or interfere with anyone else’s call; bypass rate limits, device limits, quotas, or licence checks; or reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software except to the limited extent the law expressly permits.
- Resell or redistribute. Resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute AdjiCera or access to it, register usernames in bulk, or hold usernames for resale.
What we can and cannot police
The contents of calls and chat in AdjiCera Call are protected so that we cannot read them, and we do not monitor them. What we can act on, when we receive a credible report, is at the account and username level. This means the primary safeguard against misuse is you: following this policy is a condition of using the service, not a suggestion.
Consequences of violating this policy
If you violate this policy, or if your use creates a legal or security risk to us or to other users, we may suspend or terminate your account or access, reclaim a username, or block access to our relay infrastructure. Where circumstances allow, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right; where the violation is serious or unlawful, we may act immediately. These measures are in addition to any rights we have under the Terms of Service and any remedy available to us at law.
